1. System Requirements

  • WordPress 6.0 or higher
  • PHP 7.4 or higher (PHP 8.x recommended)
  • WooCommerce 5.0+ (optional, for e-commerce features)
  • Claude API key from Anthropic OR OpenAI API key (for Pro AI features)

Free version: All 136 checks work without any API key. You only need an API key for the Pro auto-fix and AI content generation features.

2. Installation

Option A: Upload ZIP (Recommended)

  1. Download the plugin ZIP from Gumroad
  2. Go to your WordPress Dashboard → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
  3. Select the ZIP file and click "Install Now"
  4. Click "Activate Plugin"

Option B: WordPress.org (Free Version)

  1. Go to Plugins → Add New
  2. Search for "SEO Autopilot"
  3. Click "Install Now" then "Activate"

3. Configuration & API Keys

After activation, go to SEO Autopilot → Settings in your WordPress dashboard.

Claude API Key (Recommended)

  1. Sign up at console.anthropic.com
  2. Create an API key
  3. Paste it in SEO Autopilot → Settings → Claude API Key
  4. Click "Test Connection" to verify

OpenAI API Key (Alternative)

  1. Sign up at platform.openai.com
  2. Create an API key
  3. Paste it in SEO Autopilot → Settings → OpenAI API Key

Cost: AI content generation costs approximately $0.01-0.05 per page via your own API key. A full 50-page site costs about $0.50-2.50 total.

License Key (Pro)

After purchasing on Gumroad, you'll receive a license key. Enter it in SEO Autopilot → Settings → License Key to unlock Pro features.

4. Running Your First Scan

Open any post, page, or product in the WordPress editor. You'll see the SEO Autopilot meta box below the editor.

  1. Click the "Scan" button
  2. Wait 2-5 seconds for all 136 checks to complete
  3. View your three scores: SEO, AEO, and GEO
  4. Click on any check to see details and fix recommendations

The scan results include a Google SERP preview showing how your page will appear in search results.

5. Using Auto-Fix (Pro)

After scanning, you'll see which issues can be auto-fixed (marked with a wrench icon).

  1. Click "Fix All" to fix all auto-fixable issues at once
  2. Or click individual fix buttons for specific issues
  3. A backup is automatically created before any changes
  4. Review the changes and click "Save" to confirm

Safety: Every auto-fix creates an automatic backup. If anything goes wrong, you can restore to the previous state with one click.

  • Canonical URLs
  • Open Graph and Twitter Card tags
  • Schema markup (Organization, FAQ, HowTo, Speakable, Breadcrumb)
  • Security headers
  • Image ALT text
  • Script deferring
  • Favicon, hreflang, robots.txt

6. AI Content Generation (Pro)

This is where the biggest score improvements happen. AI content generation requires a Claude or OpenAI API key.

Available AI Content Types

  • FAQ Section — Generates relevant Q&A pairs with FAQ schema markup
  • Expert Quotes — Authoritative quotes that boost E-E-A-T signals
  • Comparison Tables — Structured data tables for GEO optimization
  • HowTo Steps — Step-by-step guides with HowTo schema
  • Content Summaries — Concise summaries for AI citation readiness
  • Multi-Perspective Content — Different viewpoints on a topic for GEO

Typical Score Improvements

  • AEO: from ~28-53 → 90-95
  • GEO: from ~13-35 → 83-93

7. Bulk Site Analysis (Pro)

Go to SEO Autopilot → Bulk Analysis to scan your entire site at once.

  1. Select content types to scan (posts, pages, products)
  2. Click "Scan All"
  3. View sortable results table with all three scores
  4. Use "Fix All" to auto-fix issues across all pages
  5. Export results as CSV or generate PDF reports

8. WooCommerce Setup

SEO Autopilot automatically detects WooCommerce and enables additional features:

  • Product schema markup (price, availability, reviews)
  • AggregateRating schema
  • 5 bonus e-commerce-specific checks
  • Product-specific meta tag optimization
  • Breadcrumb schema for product categories

No additional configuration needed — everything is automatic.

9. Understanding Your Scores

SEO Score (out of 100)

Measures traditional search engine optimization: meta tags, content quality, technical SEO, performance, and security. A score of 80+ is considered good.

AEO Score (out of 100)

Measures Answer Engine Optimization: how well AI search engines can discover and cite your content. Checks Speakable schema, FAQ schema, conversational content, E-E-A-T signals. A score of 80+ means AI engines can reliably find and cite your content.

GEO Score (out of 100)

Measures Generative Engine Optimization: whether generative search experiences will select your content as a source. Checks entity markup, multi-perspective content, data tables, expert quotes. A score of 80+ means strong citation likelihood.

10. Troubleshooting

API Key Connection Failed

Verify your API key is correct and has available credits. Use the "Test Connection" button in Settings.

Scan Returns Incomplete Results

Make sure your page is published (not draft). Some checks require a live URL to function properly.

Plugin Conflicts

SEO Autopilot is compatible with Yoast, RankMath, and All in One SEO. If you experience conflicts, go to Settings and enable "Compatibility Mode".
